Installing & Removing Sharps Containers into IDC Medical Security Safes

INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE

YA5L - Steel Security Safe

When any person is responsible for the management and / or disposal of contaminated waste, it is recommended they comply with Occupational Health & Safety Guidelines for the safe handling of Sharps. Suggested OH & S Procedures are attached to these Instructions.

Your YA5L Security Safe is supplied with an IDC 4.5 litre Sharps Collector (code RE4LS) already installed in the Security Safe. Contaminated waste (needles / syringes, sharp objects) are safely disposed of by depositing this waste directly into the circular chute at the top of the Security Safe.

Please Note: These Instructions should be read in conjunction with the Instructions (assembly sheet - yellow) for the safe use of the IDC 4.5 litre Sharps Collector (code RE4LS).

FITTING A SHARPS COLLECTOR INTO THE SAFE:

  • The front of the Sharps Collector is designated by the bio-hazard label. When assembling the Sharps Collector, make sure that the lid is fitted to the base so that the Final Closure (red) - attached to the lid - is positioned opposite to the front of the Sharps Collector.

  • Safe opens with key provided, ie. Front & side panels separate from the wall/ door mounted Safe casing.

  • Place the Sharps Collector inside the Safe with the Final Closure situated next to the Security Safe's deposit chute, in an upright position. Installing the Sharps Collector in the way makes sure that the opening at the top of the Sharps Collector is positioned directly under the deposit chute of the Security Safe.

## If the Sharps Collector is installed correctly, needles / syringes will deposit successfully into the Sharps Collector each time. ##

  • The Safe is now ready to use and must be locked.

 

WHEN THE SHARPS COLLECTOR IS FULL (OR MUST BE REPLACED)

  • Unlock Safe and remove front panel.

  • Make sure the Sharps Collector is safe to remove.

  • Permanently seal the Sharps Collector by FIRMLY pressing the Final Closure into the 'Fingerguard' aperture (in the top of the Sharps collector).

  • The Sharps Collector is now LOCKED and ready for safe transport to the place of final disposal.

  • An empty replacement Sharps Collector can now be installed in the Security Safe.

Please remember that: Polymer products, although puncture resistant, are not entirely puncture proof. Always follow the guidelines set down by the Infection Control Association (or equivalent). A sharps collector should never be filled above the indicator fill line. An article must Never be forced into a Sharps collector. Syringes must Never, Ever, be deposited into a Sharps collector with the needle pointing upwards.
